Stuart Render Tourism

Stuart Render is a former editor of trade magazine Coach Monthly and previous chairman of the National Coach Tourism Awards. Stuart now offers his services in coach tourism consultancy, writing, editing, PR and media relations, working with some of the country’s top tourism destinations and visitor attractions who are looking to increase their business from coaches and groups.

The initial brief was for a modern, clean and functional website. Equally important was the need to have a content management system that allows changes to be made quickly and easily. Jigowatt quickly embraced the brief, delivering a website that both reflects the Stuart Render Tourism commitment to quality, and is easy to use and update. For many people, setting up a new website, especially if you’re not tech-savvy, is likely to be stressful. The professional, friendly and enthusiastic approach delivered by the Jigowatt team undoubtedly helped reduce that stress!

Getting Acquainted

Also based in Peterborough, we met with Stuart to discuss the requirements of his website, his vision and how best to display his content for users visiting the site. After talking through the design decisions we made on other sites and outlining the features and functionality of WordPress, Stuart decided that WordPress was the right direction for his new site.

Like any new business, start up costs were tight so we used a pre-built theme template and added our own design elements to it make it unique to Stuart.

Design & Development

After organising a hosting account, we set up a development/staging site. Stuart already had a logo so we took elements from this and incorporated them into the site, using bold background colours and large text to get Stuart’s message across. The use of full width blocks creates a contemporary modern feel and aids consistency throughout the site. Using Stuart’s lifestyle photography from his coach tours adds a lovely, personal feel to the site. The published section of the site is extremely important to Stuart as it shows off his previous magazine articles and features to potential clients. We created a custom post type allowing Stuart to upload the PDF’s of articles he’s written and then display them in a flexible responsive grid format by date order.

Noteworthy Features

We’ve discussed the importance of images on websites before. Stuart travels the world and his camera was never far from his side, he has managed to capture stunning location shots and amassed a vast library of images to be used on the site.We decided to incorporate at least one of his images on every page of the site with full width header blocks. This not only showcases his photography but also highlights the worldwide destinations he covers.

Stuart’s photography certainly brings the site to life and ensures it stands out from the competition who are generally over-reliant on stock photography.
