Website Design
The original website was built back in 2009. Over the years it has been tweaked and brought up to date but consistently followed the same design. It wasn’t until this year when it received a major visual overhaul.
Having previously had a relatively dark looking website, with heavy use of dark grey and burgundy our client Mark wanted a much cleaner design which is why we opted to use white and turquoise to provide a fresh feel.
To grab attention a bubbles video hero block is a nod to the logo design established when the business started back in 2007. We colour graded the video to match the new colour scheme of the website helping re-enforce the brand and keep design consistency.
Previously the homepage contained a lot of content but didn’t highlight key aspects of the business. After discussion, we agreed on the key services to promote which helped us drive traffic to these sections with the new service blocks that are found immediately below the hero.
Web Hosting & Performance
We also host and maintain the Cogitamus website on our WP Engine servers making sure the site runs smoothly and has a 100% uptime rate according to our Uptime Robot monitor.
According to GT Metrix the previous site the following scores. We’re all extremely happy with these results considering the new site includes more images and a hero video. To see an improvement like this in terms of PageSpeed and YSlow score whilst reducing the requests by 70% is a fantastic result.
Design Services
Alongside the online activity we support Mark and his team with many other services. Design for print (from business cards to large format display banners), email marketing, IT advice and where it all started – the original Cogitamus logo design and brand identity.
We created the original Cogitamus logo back when Mark first set up the business 11 years ago. We thought it was the right time for a slight makeover. As a political public affairs company it was crucial that the colour scheme of the logo was as neutral as possible so we chose a teal/turquoise colour, that was fresh but still professional. We also added subtle animation to the “think” bubbles and strapline to add interest.
Christmas Emails
It has become somewhat of a tradition for Mark to send a tongue-in-cheek email before Christmas to Cogitamus customers focusing on a highlight of the politics of the year. This brings out the creativity, illustration, animation and image manipulation skills of Jigowatt Director Andy. It’s certainly challenging but it’s always a fun project we look forward to doing every year.
Retainer & Partnership
We’ve had a retainer arrangement with Mark for many years. It’s a convenient and flexible way to manage the various projects each month with hours not use carried over and Mark topping up hours if needed during busy times. As with all our retainer customers Mark gets priority response times and a discounted rate which ensures value for money and great service levels too.
Providing design support for Mark’s other projects and business links for example Transport Info and Heathrow Southern Railway (HSR) makes for a mutually beneficial relationship on all levels and we’re proud to be named as a business partner on a devoted page on the new Cogitamus website.
